Winter Round 2017
Thank you for your interest in WAYfinding's Winter Round! The round begins the week of January 9 and ends the week of March 13 (10 weeks). Check out the topics, groups and cost details below. You may sign-up here.
Dignity as a question asks, “Am I worthy? Do I count in your eyes?” It is both a posture and a gaze that develops when we see people as whole. Imperfect, yes. Cruel, at times. But never one-dimensional. Dignity is people – like us this election season, on both sides – wondering, aggressively asking each other, “Do you see me? No, look again, do you see all of me?”
Often, when folks feel unseen and unheard, they band together around a common identity. This can be a good thing, a necessary thing. But, it can also create an “us versus them” mentality. In this way, identities – especially when narrowed to a single identity, as was so often the case this election – serve as a kind of counter energy to dignity. The latter asks us to see others for all that they are; whereas, the former can persuade us to see others – and even ourselves – as just one thing.
So, what is to be done? Identity is. We’re not getting rid of it, nor should we. It is neither good nor bad; it simply has these potentialities. Potentialities that a lens of dignity and being rooted in s/Something deeper can help lovingly shape.
Hence, this Winter Round, we’ll spend the first 4 weeks seeking to understand the interplay of identity, dignity and g/God. Our resources will be Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s TEDTalk, The Danger of a Single Story; insights from Global Dignity; pieces from an +Acumen course on Amin Maalouf’s book, In the Name of Identity: Violence and the Need to Belong; and, as always, our own stories.
Then, we’ll spend the remaining 6 weeks exploring three identities at the fore this election season:

For those who can afford it, there is a cost with the WAYfinding experience. Each round we ask you make an investment in yourself of $50 - $150. It's a sliding scale; you pay what you can. (You are also welcome to prorate based on when you start.) And, if you can't pay, simply select our Scholarship Fund when signing up - that's all there is to it.
Or, you may become a sustaining member of WAYfinding by making a recurring donation of at least $30 per month. This option is not just an investment in yourself - all rounds are included - but in others. Your recurring donation (or quarterly/yearly, if you prefer) helps us sponsor new and existing participants, "get the word out," invest in public speakers and new programs, etc. You can learn more about our different investment levels here.
